The Creative behind Crafty cab
I’m Melissa, and I love to create! I am also a wife to Justin and a mom to two teenage girls. My house has art supplies everywhere you turn, and my family claims they don’t know what is trash and what I’m saving for an art project. I plead the fifth.
I can remember when I started creating. I was engaged, and we were on a tight wedding budget. My future mother-in-law was handling the bulk of the decorating and figured that we could make table skirts for less than we could rent them, and they were something that could be used again…so, we’d make them. She taught me how to sew the pleats into that white fabric, and off I went. We sewed table skirts until I was sick of it.
The following year, we sewed together again, aprons, and sold them at different craft fairs around town. I fell in love with creating way back then. There’s just something about putting my hands to material and turning it into something else…something more. From there, I realized that if I saw something, I could easily make my own version. Then I started developing my own ideas and making them happen…and I’ve never slowed down.
Fast-forward 20+ years from learning how to use a sewing machine, and I have had countless flops, but I also earned a degree in art. Over the years, I’ve learned wheel throwing, glass working, portrait painting, basic drawing, and so many other skills that have empowered me to step out, try new things, and cultivate my own style of painting with a willingness to always try something new.
When I create, I aim to do so with purpose. Every piece should serve you or speak to you, whether that is brightening up your space, bringing a spark of joy to the mundane moments, or connecting with a part of you that needs reminding of the beauty and purpose in this life.
